Shining Force EXA steers the legend toward action RPG. Snappy combat, intriguing base management and a manga look. Less strategic than older Shining titles, but pleasant to play.

Description
A Neverland and Sega action RPG released in 2007, the spiritual sequel to Shining Force Neo. Toma and Cyrille, the two protagonists, alternate in a fantasy world where they fight in isometric hack-and-slash with powerful skills and weapon fusion. More polished than Shining Neo, classic prophecy storyline. Distributed simultaneously in Japan and the US.

Is Shining Force EXA still worth playing in 2026?

An action RPG from Neverland and Sega, Shining Force EXA extends the series' hack and slash turn by following two heroes of distinct styles you alternate between, and adding a base to develop between expeditions. The snappy combat, the customisation system and the management dimension enrich the formula. The repetition of the dungeons and a pace sometimes chopped by back and forth weigh it down. A good game for fans of loot action RPGs, dynamic combat and fantasy with a touch of management on PS2.
