Sitio do Picapau Amarelo is a tasty action RPG that enriches the Wonder Boy saga on Master System, based on Monteiro Lobato's Brazilian universe. Exploration, shops and bosses are well balanced, making it one of the console's most complete games. Still pleasant to play through, truly recommended.

Master System adaptation of the fifth Wonder Boy released in parallel with the Mega Drive port, here PAL exclusive and marked by a noteworthy technical reworking for 8 bit. That regional exclusivity, at a time when Sega was gradually abandoning the platform in the US, leaves it as one of the last major SMS titles distributed by Sega Europe in a cardboard box. Continental run was short, which explains the current scarcity of clean complete copies identified as PAL.

Is Wonder Boy in Monster World still worth playing in 2026?

Wonder Boy in Monster World extends the series' RPG evolution with obvious craft. Exploration unfolds across a larger world than ever, shops are plentiful, bosses are polished and the hero's transformations give equipment progression a real meaning. On Master System it ranks among the most complete titles in the catalogue, halfway between adventure and action. The pacing stays approachable, the writing warm and the difficulty fair. For fans of the Wonder Boy lineage, it remains a thoroughly satisfying detour today and a recommended stop on the line.
