The first entry that launched the toys-to-life concept. The base gameplay is limited but the novelty of its time gives it undeniable historical interest.

This founding instalment lays down a charter the series would never leave: a strict colour code per element, fire in orange, ice in pale blue, magic in purple, applied at once to the characters, their attacks and the markers in the setting. The lit base placed in front of the television finds its echo on screen in a circle of light of the same hue, the only visual link between object and game.

Is Skylanders - Spyro's Adventure still worth playing in 2026?

An Activision toys to life platform, Skylanders Spyro's Adventure extends the founding series of connected toys, where placing a figure on the portal brings its character into the adventure. The founding first entry launches the concept, gathering a gallery of elemental heroes in a colourful world. The blend of action, exploration and collecting stays pleasant for the family, backed by convivial local co-op. The reliance on paid figures and the end of the range weigh on the model. A good game for families, young players and collectors of connected toys on Wii U.
