An excellent open-world action game set in Hong Kong. The hand-to-hand combat system stands out and the story remains engaging. It has aged well and is still a genuine pleasure to play through today.

Collector interest

The Japanese version of Sleeping Dogs, marketed as Hong Kong Himitsu Keisatsu, a local variant of this Hong Kong open-world crime drama. This title specific to the Japanese market appeals to collectors of the game's regional variants. Its interest lies in this naming and Japanese run rather than strong scarcity.

An underrated gem

A survivor of a chaotic development, this open world plunges us into a vibrant Hong Kong alongside an undercover cop, driven by hand-to-hand combat of rare punch. Overshadowed by the genre's giants, it remains underrated despite its strengths. Its cinematic mood and sheer energy make it a gem for fans of urban sandboxes.

Is Sleeping Dogs - Hong Kong Himitsu Keisatsu still worth playing in 2026?

Sleeping Dogs is an excellent open-world action game whose setting, the Hong Kong of the triads, gives it a strong and singular identity in a genre often set in the United States. Playing Wei Shen, an undercover cop torn between two camps, unfolds a gripping story carried by cinematically inspired staging. The hand-to-hand combat system, brisk and choreographed in the spirit of martial-arts films, is its most striking asset. The driving and the gunfights stay solid. Aged well, this title remains today an immersive and stylish ride, to be discovered for its unique atmosphere.
