Half heist, half comic book, the raccoon's adventure is dressed in cel-shading of clean outlines and hushed nocturnal moods. Each era visited wears its own palette, from neon to half-light. This elegant cartoon style, complicit with the stealth gameplay, keeps an irresistible visual character.
Each era visited receives its own instrumentation: bowed strings and percussion for feudal Japan, bagpipes and drums for medieval England, harmonica and acoustic guitar for the American West. The bass line that identifies the series remains present beneath those coverings, so the time travel is heard without the sonic identity being lost.
The story is built on an original threat: the pages of the family manual are fading because someone is travelling back in time to eliminate the protagonist's ancestors. Each era visited therefore stages a forebear with a different trade, samurai, knight, outlaw, and the past becomes ground to defend rather than scenery to cross.
