Sonic in isometric 3D, a mixed experience. Collecting Flickies slows down the franchise's characteristic action. Visually decent but doesn't capture Sonic's essence. More interesting as a curiosity than an authentic Sonic experience.

The European cut of the isometric Sonic 3D port, this last true Sonic on Saturn landed late in 1997 as the PAL cycle wound down, in an already thin run while the system faded in Europe. The content matches the US release, but the multilingual PAL box and manual are markedly scarcer when complete. Its appeal rests on standing as the mascot's parting shot on the machine across Europe.

Is Sonic 3D - Flickies' Island still worth playing in 2026?

An isometric platformer from Sega, Sonic 3D Flickies' Island has Sonic save the Flickies trapped inside robots, guiding them toward teleporter rings across colorful levels. The isometric approach, unusual for the series, gives a more measured, exploratory Sonic, of definite charm despite a perspective that sometimes complicates precision. The pace is less thrilling than the classic 2D entries. A curiosity for Sonic fans curious about an offbeat formula and lovers of retro collect-a-thon platforming.
