A well-paced 8-bit Sonic with a novelty: playable Tails. Varied levels and speed intact. Not the best in the portable saga, but a solid and honest entry.

Collector interest

Sonic Chaos arrived in 1993 on PAL and Brazilian shelves and introduced playable Tails to the 8-bit line. Its broad European distribution keeps loose carts fairly affordable, setting it apart from the console's rarer Sonic entries. Value concentrates almost entirely on sealed copies, whose prices climb sharply: a well-regarded, well-rated title whose collector demand turns on factory-sealed condition rather than on outright scarcity.

Is Sonic Chaos still worth playing in 2026?

A platformer from Sega, Sonic Chaos extends the blue hedgehog's adventures on Master System with increased speed, loops, jumps and new powers, including Tails' rocket jump. The fluidity, the generosity of the levels and the sense of rhythm make it one of the best 8 bit Sonics, built for the pleasure of frantic running. The difficulty stays accessible. For a fan of fast platforming, a Sonic fan or someone curious about the machine's peaks, the title keeps a remarkable energy and play pleasure even today.
