Sonic Superstars returns to classic 2D Sonic, spiced with original Emerald powers and four-player co-op. The pace is pleasant, but the level design sometimes lacks bite, and multiplayer turns messy. Likeable without ever quite being memorable.

True to the blue hedgehog's DNA, Sonic Superstars strings together breakneck showdowns where speed itself is a weapon: you circle the foe, wait for the opening and strike mid-sprint. Dr. Eggman and his ever more outlandish machines pile on phases and transformations, and certain giant-arena duels reimagine the series' classic grammar with real flair.
Better with friends
With four players, Sonic's velocity becomes glorious mayhem: everyone barrels forward, overtakes, and loses sight of each other the moment the camera locks onto the leader. That friction is half the fun, from belly laughs when a straggler gets warped back in to good-natured gripes about who's dragging the pack. It plays best with similarly skilled friends, but the raw, scrappy chaos is a snap to fire up again.
