Space Harrier adapts Sega's pseudo 3D arcade shooter to Game Gear with its flying protagonist and fantastical creatures. The conversion suffers technically but the psychedelic spirit of the original shines through colorful levels. More of a curiosity for arcade fans than a smooth shooter to recommend today.

Is Space Harrier still worth playing in 2026?

A port of Sega's cult rail shooter, Space Harrier propels the hero into a fake 3D scroll where he dodges and blasts a deluge of enemies and psychedelic obstacles. The sense of speed, the forward scrolling and the surreal aesthetic make it an arcade classic, whose Game Gear version captures the spirit surprisingly well despite the technical limits. The intensity stays intact. For a fan of rail shooters or someone curious about Sega heritage, the title keeps a raw pleasure and a strong identity.
