Spartan Total Warrior dives into a mythical ancient Rome. Unapologetic hack-and-slash, enemy waves and a gory peplum mood. Fun and cathartic between two God of War sessions.

Description
A Creative Assembly and Sega action game released in 2005, a hack-and-slash in mythological ancient Greece. The nameless Spartan (voiced by Cary Tagawa) traverses epic battlefields against Romans, Cimmerians and mythological hordes. God of War-style mass combat, peplum atmosphere and local co-op. Creative Assembly's attempt to step out of the Total War genre. Solid but not revolutionary.

Is Spartan - Total Warrior still worth playing in 2026?

An action game from Creative Assembly, Spartan Total Warrior plunges a warrior into a mythological antiquity where he carves up Roman legions and fantastical creatures in waves, in a deluge of spectacular combat. The combat system, the varied weapons and the scale of the clashes deliver an epic, snappy blast, backed by a fantasy peplum mood. The repetitiveness and a sometimes confusing camera weigh. A beefy brawler to recommend for fans of ancient action and massive melees.
