Speed Freaks is a colorful Psygnosis PS1 kart racer featuring alien characters and futuristic circuits. Accessible and fun arcade gameplay, good speed. Less deep than CTR or Mario Kart but offers an honest kart experience. A good kart title for casual multiplayer sessions on PS1.

Is Speed Freaks still worth playing in 2026?

A Funcom kart racer known as Speed Punks, Speed Freaks pits a band of zany kids on colourful tracks packed with power-ups and shortcuts, in a snappy, accessible arcade formula. The sense of speed, the drift boost system and the multiplayer make it a likeable, underrated kart game on the console. The decent but unremarkable production places it behind the genre's heavyweights. A festive racer to recommend for fans of arcade karting and frenzied multiplayer matches.
