Collector interest

A third entry that closes the dragon trilogy on the console by adding playable characters and varied play styles, the series' peak on PlayStation. Still fairly widespread in the West, its interest lies in this status as the culmination of a well-liked line rather than scarcity. A prime piece for anyone wanting to complete the mascot's journey on the machine.

A cult cover

A little purple dragon puffing out his chest amid a fireworks of colors, eggs and festive lanterns: this third installment flaunts the most festive, packed of its settings. The dazzling palette and teeming composition convey the scope of a generous playground. Sparkling and warm, it celebrates a mascot at the height of his charm.

Is Spyro - Year of the Dragon still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2000 on PS1, Insomniac Games' project closes the original trilogy with a generosity never matched by previous entries. The roster of playable characters, the minigames and the richness of worlds install strong replay value. The handling stays accessible and the pastel art direction blossoms. The camera and a few jumps still demand attention, and the PS1 version loses ground to the remasters. Recommended today for families, for 3D platformer fans and for Insomniac Games nostalgics curious about the peak of the original trilogy on Sony's first home console hardware before the studio moved on globally.
