A Hudson vertical shoot'em up on NES. The successor to Star Force, more varied and technical. Good weapon selection, impressive bosses. One of the great vertical shooters on the console.

Is Star Soldier still worth playing in 2026?

A vertical shooter from Hudson Soft, Star Soldier sends a ship to face space armies in a flood of snappy fire, with a steady pace built for scoring and the timed shooting contests dear to Hudson. The clean concept, the power-ups and the readability make it a notable Famicom shmup representative, whose score chasing spirit stays gripping. The repetition betrays its age. For a retro shooter fan, someone curious about Hudson scoring culture or a collector, the title keeps a snappy effectiveness and a direct pleasure.
