Suikoden IV returns to a single hero in a sea-bound world. Boat travel, a more modest cast and a more linear plot. Less consistent than III, but keeps a touching mood.

Description
A Konami RPG released in 2005, the fourth main Suikoden franchise entry. Lazlo, a young sailor from the island kingdom of Razril, is drawn into a naval conflict against the Kooluk empire. 108 recruitables, naval mechanics with ship battles, but a more traditional combat system without Suikoden III's trinity mode. Received more mixed than previous entries, slow pacing.

Is Suikoden IV still worth playing in 2026?

The fourth entry in Konami's RPG saga, Suikoden IV unfolds a maritime adventure where you gather the hundred and eight Stars of Destiny across an archipelago travelled by ship. The sea theme, the boat exploration and the fleshed out recruitment system carry on the series' spirit, backed by a polished art direction. The slow pace, the repetitive sea battles and the many nautical back and forths disappointed against the flagship entries. An RPG to recommend for Suikoden fans and lovers of large community Japanese adventure.
