Story
★★★★★
"Anecdotal"
This revision enriches what the previous version left bare: redrawn selection screens, animated portraits called on far more often, background scenery that changes with the opponent faced. The playing area itself stays rigorously untouched, which confirms Compile knew exactly which line not to cross.
The familiar themes are rearranged with richer timbres, and a few new pieces complete the selection, particularly for the added modes. The principle is unchanged, short melodies and an end of match acceleration, but the whole sounds fuller, which makes long duelling evenings markedly less repetitive.
Gameplay
"Masterful"
An expanded variant of the Tsuu installment, this remix refines its modes and options around the same fearsomely deep counter system. Soaking up attacks the better to bury your opponent remains the heart of a duel that stays perpetually tense. Designed for veterans, it extends with finesse one of the most balanced puzzle formulas on the machine.
Fun
"From the very first seconds"
This version polishes the legendary counter formula with new modes and tweaks that sharpen replay value. Lining up your blobs, triggering monstrous chains and cancelling the opponent's assault stays a duel as snappy as it is strategic. Feeling a cascade turn the game around delivers an exhilarating satisfaction. Deep, tense and addictive, a competitive puzzle built for versus.
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
The added counter mechanic turns every chain into a battle of wits where you bide your time to overwhelm your opponent all the better. Attempting a longer chain, reversing a losing round or climbing the difficulty endlessly revives the urge to play on. Deeper than the first, this puzzle keeps a strategic tension that grips for the long haul in versus.

Collector interest
A 1996 Super Famicom Compile/Banpresto Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix, an extended Japan-exclusive version with additional content over the original Tsuu. The cart was released late in the SFC cycle with a drastically short print, which makes it one of the rarest SFC Puyo Puyo. Intact boxed CIB with cardboard sleeve and illustrated Banpresto manual has become a grail for Compile/Puyo collectors, and the cote climbs hard.
Is Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix still worth playing in 2026?
Super Puyo Puyo 2, namely Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu and its Remix, is probably the peak of the Compile formula on the SFC. The major novelty is the counterattack, namely the ability to partially cancel incoming blockers by sending some back, which totally reshapes the versus dynamic. The cast widens and solo and co op modes diversify. Recommended for the best SFC Puyo Puyo and to versus puzzle fans ready to invest in long chain learning to rival at high level.
