The second instalment is the most contrasted of the trilogy: the blinding white of Hoth, the greenish mist soaked swamps of Dagobah, then the coppery tones of Cloud City. The walker sequence, handled in Mode 7 with the tow cable, remains one of the rare moments when a game of that era reproduces a film scene at this scale.

Collector interest

Second chapter of the Super Star Wars trilogy, this PAL edition of The Empire Strikes Back carries both the Star Wars license and the JVC imprint, two collector magnets. The European pool is tighter than the American one, and the PAL cardboard box with multilingual manual is harder to find in good shape, which underpins the complete copy. Widespread as a bare cartridge, the item reaches full value sealed and in flawless complete form, where license and regional scarcity combine.

Is Super Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back still worth playing in 2026?

Super Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back, known as Super Star Wars Teikoku no Gyakushuu in Japan, extends the LucasArts adaptation with episode V, namely Hoth snow speeder battles, Jedi training with Yoda and a Bespin confrontation. The cartridge keeps its tight handling and fierce difficulty, but the playable cast grows and the Force powers add tactical variation. Recommended to fans of the first and to lovers of demanding, film faithful Star Wars LucasArts platforming.
