An underrated gem

A portable prequel to Tactics Ogre, this tactical distills political intrigue and finely tuned battles with the series' signature elegance. Released in the shadow of a demanding genre and a fledgling console, it reached a limited audience. Deep and beautifully written, it stands as one of the machine's strategic peaks for anyone who loves to think.

Is Tactics Ogre Gaiden - The Knight of Lodis still worth playing in 2026?

Tactics Ogre - The Knight of Lodis is a Quest tactical RPG, heir to the illustrious Ogre Battle lineage, in which the knight Alphonse leads his units across isometric grid battlefields. The depth of the class system, the importance of terrain and alignment, and a mature story with weighty moral choices make it a tactical game of great richness. The polished presentation and elevated writing hold up admirably. For fans of demanding strategic RPGs and political tales, it is a peak of the genre on GBA.
