Collector interest

A GBA port of Tales of Phantasia, founder of Namco's long-running series, notable for its real-time battle system on a handheld. The Japanese edition is the source of this port. The appeal rests on its status as a Tales cornerstone and on fans' interest in the portable version of this classic, more than on front-rank scarcity.

Is Tales of Phantasia still worth playing in 2026?

Tales of Phantasia is the GBA remake of the first installment of the Tales of series, in which Cless and his companions travel through time to stop the sorcerer Dhaos. The side-scrolling real-time combat system, innovative originally, keeps its dynamism, and the epic story retains real weight. The version, however, suffers from a criticized translation and lower sound quality than previous iterations. For fans of action JRPGs and the history of the Tales series, it is an interesting gateway, despite its flaws.
