Collector interest

The Western release of the ninja-stealth milestone, which introduced audiences outside Japan to concealment, silent assassination and the grappling hook in a dark feudal Japan. Still common, its interest lies in this role as a gateway to an exotic genre for the West rather than scarcity. An affordable piece for stealth fans wanting an early classic.

Is Tenchu - Stealth Assassins still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1998 on PS1 as the international version of the Japanese Rittai Ninja Katsugeki, this Acquire title published by Activision lays one of the first major milestones of three dimensional ninja stealth. The grappling hook, the shurikens and the stealth kills from rooftops shaped the genre. The art direction of feudal villages and Noriyuki Asakura's music keep their identity. The sometimes capricious camera and uneven AI demand patience. Recommended today for stealth devotees and for PS1 collectors curious about the Acquire label on Sony's first home console hardware globally.
