Tetris sequel on NES with a puzzle mode in addition to the classic. Enriched concept but less elegant than the original. For Tetris fans wanting a different experience.

Is Tetris 2 still worth playing in 2026?

A Nintendo variation on the falling block myth, Tetris 2 drops line clearing in favour of a colour matching system, where you must connect identical blocks around fixed pieces to make them disappear. This change of paradigm puzzles purists but opens a different strategy, closer to a connection puzzle. The colourful presentation and the clarity stay polished. The mixed reception mostly owes to the original's shadow. For a fan of puzzling or someone curious about an unexpected reworking of Tetris, the title keeps an honest mechanic and a certain charm.
