Treyarch returns to Spider-Man with two heroes, Peter and Venom, in a very successful cel-shaded New York. Refined mechanics, fun local multiplayer and denser storytelling. A genuinely good Spider-Man, slightly darker than Spider-Man 2. Recommended to fans of the wall-crawler.

Drawn in bold inked lines and vivid flat colours, New York takes on the look of a comic page in motion. The cel-shading, the strong outlines and the panels that burst in transpose the spirit of the page beautifully. This graphic faithfulness to the Marvel comic makes it one of the most stylish adaptations of its time.

Is Ultimate Spider-Man still worth playing in 2026?

Treyarch's Ultimate Spider-Man adapts the Ultimate Marvel comic with cel-shaded rendering that captures its linework beautifully, and lets you alternate between Spider-Man and Venom across an open-world New York. The web-swinging stays exhilarating and faithful, even if repetitive missions and a slightly empty open world betray the era. Its art direction, which makes it one of the finest Spider-Man games, easily justifies the detour for fans of the character and of comics.
