Sega rail shooter, near-perfect port of the arcade classic. Punchy police action, excellent precision with the Saturn Gun. Limited content but intensity compensates. Ideal with the light gun. A must for Saturn arcade gun games.

North American run of Virtua Cop on Saturn, distributed by Sega of America in 1995, an AM2 conversion of the 1994 arcade rail shooter, playable with the Stunner light gun. Though released early in the console's life, the title suffered from the weak US Saturn install base, and a complete NTSC-U copy with its original Stunner stays more contested than expected for a founding AM2 title. A landmark for US Saturn rail shooter collectors and Sega 3D arcade enthusiasts.

Is Virtua Cop still worth playing in 2026?

A Saturn adaptation of the famous Sega arcade rail shooter, Virtua Cop offers a pseudo 3D police shoot where you neutralise criminals while avoiding civilians. The arcade faithful police art direction, accessible game system and two player cooperative mode make it an absolute rail shoot reference on Saturn. Without an adapted gun the experience loses a lot but stays playable on pad. For anyone fond of Sega rail shoots, a warm recommendation still valid today truly here indeed for any returning fan now.
