An underrated gem

A Punch-Out in disguise, this boxing game pits you against eccentric opponents whose patterns you must decode, all wrapped in offbeat humor. Released by a modest publisher, it kept a low profile despite its qualities. For fans of precisely timed boxing and colorful characters, it's an unexpected and endearing challenger.

Is Wade Hixton's Counter Punch still worth playing in 2026?

Wade Hixton's Counter Punch is a boxing game of atypical charm, in which an unknown climbs the ranks of a town peopled with eccentric opponents, in a blend of rhythmic fights and offbeat humor. The gameplay, which calls for observing each boxer's patterns to dodge and counter, recalls the spirit of Punch-Out with a personality all its own. The colorful presentation and the gallery of memorable characters are its charm. For fans of old-school arcade boxing and singular games, it is a little-known GBA gem.
