The sequel drops the juxtaposition of heroes from elsewhere for a tighter, redrawn cast, with larger and better animated sprites. The scenery gains depth from multiple planes, and the side-scrolling shooting phases introduce a graphic treatment entirely distinct from the platform sections.
The writing exploits the chip with the studio's usual density, mobile bass and continuous countermelody, but now builds original themes rather than arranging those of other titles. Each zone gets its piece, and the shooting phases switch to tenser writing without breaking the unity of tone.
