The ship is accompanied by two orbital modules whose position is readable on screen at all times, the central element of the visual composition. The scenery crosses asteroids, organic structures and space bases, with a cold palette dominated by blues and greys that sets off the coloured fire.
The writing favours clear melodies laid over simple accompaniment, without seeking the genre's usual saturation. The themes keep an almost melancholy bearing in the emptiest stages, then thicken as the confrontations approach, giving the run an unexpected relief.
Whip Rush is the NTSC edition of the Renovation/Vic Tokai shooter, released in a very limited print run on Genesis. Its collector value comes from the cult status of the Vic Tokai/Renovation shooter among Megadrive shmup fans and from the fact that the US cartridge is one of the hardest Renovation shmup productions to track down.
