The whole island is treated like a poster. No visible texture, clean masses of colour for sand, sea and roofs, a gradient sky with no detailed cloud: Nintendo draws a holiday brochure rather than a realistic setting. The avatars, cut down to a few strokes on a round head, slot in effortlessly and leave all the reading to volumes and distances.
