Every creature literally illustrates an everyday annoyance. The one that makes you forget names, the one that makes you hungry at the wrong moment, the one that makes you put things off: their silhouettes translate the symptom into shape, with a round line, blunt colours and one accessory that is enough to convey the effect. The bestiary thus becomes a catalogue of small miseries turned into pictures.
The summoning has its own sung refrain. Each family of creatures has a short vocal hook, a few syllables repeated over three or four notes, triggered at the moment of the call and short enough never to disturb the fight in progress. Since those hooks differ from one family to the next, you end up knowing who has just arrived on the field without taking your eyes off the action.

Traveling back in time, widening the town and tracking down a myriad of new Yo-Kai to befriend reignites the medallium hunt on a grander scale, with more quests. Evolving your friends and combing every corner stretches out the adventure. The battle system stays loose on control, but this teeming collection and its endearing humor hold you in a stubborn grip.

An enriched version of the adventure, this entry adds exclusive Yokai, an extra chapter and new features to an already abundant formula. Completing your collection, combing the neighbourhoods and taking on the challenges fills very long hours. That surplus of content, grafted onto the series' addictive loop, makes it the most complete cut.
Yo-Kai Watch 2 Psychic Specters PAL is the European extended version of the second entry, the Western equivalent of the Japanese Shin'uchi release. Collector value comes from the franchise's Western activity stopping shortly after, making this cartridge one of Yo-Kai Watch's last boxed appearances in Europe. Modest Nintendo Europe print, seven-language pack including Dutch and Russian.

A ghost-filled adventure where you link your console to friends' to take on tough spirits together or face off in a duel. Cooperation shines in group battles, where coordinating your creatures and trading off on healing makes the difference, while competition spices up the showdowns. Gathering every Yo-kai pushes you to trade, and each shared session feeds a joyfully contagious collecting bug.
Is Yo-Kai Watch 2 - Psychic Specters still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2014 in Japan then in the West on 3DS, Level-5's project extends the capture RPG that became a craze in Japan, where you befriend Yo-Kai, mischievous spirits hidden in daily life, to call them into battle. The semi automatic combat system, built on rotating a wheel of allies and tactile cleansing of bad spirits, mixes accessibility and management. The exploration of a living town, the time travel and the offbeat humour make for an endearing world. The repetition and the time consuming collection divide. An excellent family RPG, recommended for fans of creature capture and of humour.
