Story
"Captivating"
This version keeps the series' overhead view and dresses it in warm colours: villages of pale stone, dense forests, gilded ruins, underground sanctuaries. Adol, red haired and caped, stays identifiable at first glance, and the maps are drawn with enough landmarks that you find your way without ever consulting a plan.

Is Ys IV - Mask of the Sun still worth playing in 2026?

An action RPG in the Falcom saga developed by Tonkin House, Ys IV Mask of the Sun returns to top down action and the bump combat system that built the reputation of the early entries. The snappy pace, the rich exploration and the inspired soundtrack carry on the series' spirit with flair. The Japanese text closes off access for Western players. An excellent action RPG for fans of the Ys saga and lovers of dynamic, melodic 16 bit adventure.
