This version keeps the series' overhead view and dresses it in warm colours: villages of pale stone, dense forests, gilded ruins, underground sanctuaries. Adol, red haired and caped, stays identifiable at first glance, and the maps are drawn with enough landmarks that you find your way without ever consulting a plan.
Faithful to Falcom's sonic legend, the music deploys a melodic rock of stunning fire and beauty, from supercharged battle themes to the most moving melodies. Each track carries Adol's adventure with an unforgettable heroic energy. This musical richness confirms Ys as a benchmark of the soundtrack.
The story returns to the origins of the world of Ys, following Adol to a continent where two ancient masks decide the fate of peoples. The writing favours brief encounters and gradual revelations over grand speeches, and the journey matters above all for the way it connects what earlier instalments had left unresolved.
