A European Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel platformer, spiritual Aero the Acro-Bat sequel. Visually pleasant, no great genius.

Collector interest

The PAL edition of this Aero the Acro-Bat spin-off, released in Europe where late platformer runs stayed short and the installed base was smaller. The European release, with multilingual manual and PAL-format box, makes it the hardest of the regional trio to assemble in clean shape. Desirability comes mainly from that relative scarcity of surviving copies rather than any cult status of the game, liked but never landmark. Complete and tidy, it is the variant PAL collectors chase.

Is Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel still worth playing in 2026?

An Iguana and Sunsoft platformer spun off from the Aero the Acro-Bat series, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel follows a ninja squirrel wielding shurikens and gliding between platforms. The snappy handling, the gliding powers and the colourful art direction make for decent, dynamic action. The high difficulty and a sometimes confusing level design slow the fun. An honest retro platformer for fans of the 16 bit genre and the curious about spin off mascots of the 90s.
