The first chapter of Namco's saga, sold in Japan under the name that would later go global while the West got the Air Combat title. Owning the birth certificate of an arcade-flight franchise still active today gives this edition genuine point-of-origin value. Released in 1995, before the PlayStation took off commercially, it circulated in limited runs whose complete, working copies are steadily thinning out.

Is Ace Combat still worth playing in 2026?

Ace Combat, also known as Air Combat in some European markets, is the first PS1 entry and founder of the arcade aerial combat simulation genre. Namco's title offers varied missions, an exhilarating sense of speed and intuitive gameplay laying the foundations of the entire franchise. Technically dated today, the title remains the historical starting point of a major saga. An important step to know today.
