This re-release touches not the game but its editing. Key sequences are re-cut to coincide with the sung openings, so the image marries the scansion of the lyrics, an attack chain falling right on a chorus, a slow motion over a musical bridge. The spectacle turns to music video, where the staging of the same battles is entirely re-tuned to the rhythm of the voice.
The only real addition of this version lies in its music: the openings return sung, original voices and lyrics included. Where the standard entry limited itself to instrumental themes, each series here regains its full song, belted out mid-mission. For the enthusiast, the whole appeal is this vocal soundtrack, a sonic tribute that lets the anime hits ring out at their exact place.
On the story side, nothing new: the plot is that of ACE 2, taken up without a line added. This Special Vocal Version owns its status as a re-release for enthusiasts, where the story serves the soundtrack rather than the reverse. The collector finds here the definitive version to listen to, but whoever has already gone through the standard adventure will rediscover no twist, only a musical showcase.

Collector interest
A giant-robot action game by Banpresto and From Software, gathering mechas from multiple animation series in free, brisk piloting, exclusive to Japan. A Special Vocal Version variant adds sung theme songs, a collectible spin prized by fans. Its interest lies in this gathering of licenses and its local run rather than scarcity, in a niche loyal to mecha.
Is Another Century's Episode 2 - Special Vocal Version still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2005 on PS2 in Japan, From Software's project offers a mecha action that gathers anime series from a whole era, from Mobile Suit Gundam to Macross. The piloting feel, the pilot and mecha combinations and the anime style staging install a real fervour. The Special Vocal Version adds original sung themes for the heroes. The 3D modelling and some cameras have aged. Recommended today for Japanese mecha devotees, for pre Souls From Software fans and for PS2 collectors curious about ambitious Japanese imports never localised in the West on Sony's second home console hardware globally.
