Athena adapts the SNK arcade shoot platformer to NES with Princess Athena exploring a fantasy world. The conversion keeps the goddess iconography and power ups but difficulty stays high. Pleasant for 8 bit SNK fans, original in the heroine princess concept.

Collector interest

Athena was released only on Famicom in Japan in 1987, an SNK arcade port whose title princess would later become a recurring figure in SNK's universe and Neo Geo lineage. This territorial exclusivity and the tie to SNK's in-house mythology, carried through to Athena in The King of Fighters, sustain the interest. The high CIB value reflects limited survival of Famicom boxes for a third-party title of that era.
