The liner sells a luxury already rotten. Gilded ballrooms where seawater stagnates, crystal chandeliers crusted with salt, wallpaper peeling off in long strips, sodden carpets, pitted mirrors: the setting keeps everywhere the trace of a recent splendour, which makes the decay more obscene than a mere ruined laboratory. The creatures, soft and translucent, extend that aesthetic of stagnant water.
The writing follows the cutting of a television series. Every episode opens on a recap carried by a short recognisable motif, closes on a suspended chord that leaves the scene hanging, and the space between alternates long almost silent stretches with very brief string attacks, placed to the frame. That breathing in chapters clearly sets the whole apart from the rest of the series.

The Taiwanese edition stands out for its Traditional Chinese localisation, a notable detail for a portable Resident Evil, and for a print run well below the Japanese figures. Taiwanese sleeves are known for their print quality, which makes them desirable beyond the local market alone. Its rarity stems both from the narrow regional reach and from the fragile fate of unsold stock, little of which survived outside private collections.

Released in 2012 on 3DS and known in the West as Resident Evil - Revelations, Capcom's project proves that an ambitious survival horror could hold on a handheld. The adventure of Jill Valentine aboard a ghost liner reconnects with the tense exploration, resource management and claustrophobic dread that built the series' reputation, far from the action orientation of the era. The Genesis scanner, revealing hidden items and weak points, adds a clever layer. The episodic structure and a few weak sequences divide. An excellent portable entry, recommended for fans of classic survival horror.
