The visual idea fits in one image: each character casts a gigantic shadow that peels off the ground and fights in their place, an outsized blue dragon, phoenix or minotaur towering over children with rounded proportions. That constant scale relationship, a small silhouette and a colossal creature joined at the feet, organizes every battle scene in the game.
Signed by Nobuo Uematsu, the score unfurls a blazing orchestra and the famous rock battle theme sung by Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, of a galvanising energy.
