Game Boy port of Bonk's Adventure from PC Engine. Headbutt, prehistoric levels, meat that turns Bonk into rage mode. The port loses colors (inevitably) and sprite size, but the Hudson cartoon spirit stays. Pleasant, nothing more, the second one does better.

GB Genjin is the Japanese version of handheld Bonk's Adventure, made by Hudson Soft itself, the studio behind the PC Engine franchise. The head-butting caveman remains one of NEC's signature mascots, giving the Japanese line a legitimacy the Western Bonk ports don't always carry. A decent Japanese print run meets steady Hudson-fan demand, hence the strong CIB value. The pick for owning the Genjin lineage in its native form.

Is GB Genjin still worth playing in 2026?

Bonk's Adventure brings to the Game Boy Hudson Soft's famous prehistoric platformer, where the little caveman with the overpowered skull knocks out dinosaurs and enemies with a headbutt. The meat power ups that boost his abilities and the oversized bosses add pep to the progression, in a colorful, cheerful mood. The conversion loses a little splendor on the small screen, but the concept stays endearing and fun. A likeable retro platformer full of personality, worth recommending to fans of the mascot and the genre.
