The expanded prequel reworking of the N64 Castlevania, widely seen as the series' best early 3D effort. Cornell brings a fresh combat style, the levels read more cleanly than before and the gothic mood truly clicks. Still rough around the edges, but well worth diving into.

Collector interest

Konami's extended Japanese reissue of the N64 Castlevania, adding the character Cornell and reworked stages. Kept exclusively Japanese, it is regarded as the series' best 3D outing on the console, earning genuine demand where most Japanese N64 exclusives live on scarcity alone. Two forces drive the price here: definitive-version status sought by saga fans and a limited Japanese print run.

Is Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku Gaiden - Legend of Cornell still worth playing in 2026?

Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku Gaiden - Legend of Cornell, known in the West as Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, offers a fleshed-out version of the N64 entry by placing Cornell the werewolf at the heart of a prequel story. The enriched content, multiple playable characters and polished gothic atmosphere correct some of the first attempt's flaws. The camera and 3D handling remain perfectible. For fans of the Castlevania saga and retro gothic action, it is the most complete version of this three-dimensional adventure.
