The stage is run alone, with no opponent on screen, so the image comes down to the road and what borders it: lined-up trunks, straw bales, spectators standing in the ditches. Fog, night and rain close that field further still, until the headlights return no more than a dozen metres of road.
An entry of Codemasters' rally, Colin McRae Rally 04 polishes its demanding off-road driving and physics model, a genre reference on the generation. Fairly common in the West, its interest lies in this simulation rigor and the tribute to the late driver rather than scarcity. An affordable piece for fans of demanding rally.
Is Colin McRae Rally 04 still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2003, this entry marks a more demanding turn for Codemasters' series. The physics edge closer to simulation, the stages emphasise surface changes and the pacenotes read by Nicky Grist, and the community has long pegged it as one of the most balanced rallies of the era. Some thin sound effects and dated exterior modelling betray the period, and the career menu structure is austere. Today it remains a strong pick for old school rally fans who want driving more technical than a modern DiRT entry and for collectors of Codemasters' golden age of motorsport.
