Darius R on GBA, port of Taito's space shooter. Faithful to the original with its giant fish-shaped bosses. Niche pleasure for genre fans, hard to find better on GBA.

Is Darius R still worth playing in 2026?

A space shoot-em-up from Taito on GBA, Darius R adapts the famous arcade series and its giant-fish-inspired bosses across horizontally scrolling zones. The snappy shooting, the power-up system and the branching levels keep the saga's DNA in a handy pocket format. The content is short and the presentation modest against the arcade entries. Kept in Japan, it is an honest curiosity for fans of horizontal shmups and Darius lovers keen to explore a handheld take.
