Story
"Masterful"
This instalment crosses a technical threshold: the sprites are redrawn at a markedly higher resolution, making costume and facial details legible where they were previously only suggested. The Netherworld is structured in strata, underground prison, administrative halls, surface, each handled with its own dominant hue recalling where you stand in the hierarchy.
Gameplay
"Excellent"
Fun
"Pleasant"
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
Optimizing an army of demons to the extreme, reshuffling your assembly to unlock bonuses and spells, heading back to farm the Item World: the tactical loop feeds on itself and keeps shoving the limit further out. Each combo of mechanics opens new peaks of power. Repetition lies in wait for those allergic to farming, but the inventiveness of the system holds strategists for a very long time.
Difficulty
"Balanced"
Lifespan
"Massive"
Pushing your demons to astronomical levels through long tactical battles sets up a progression loop with no real ceiling. Recruiting, optimising and farming the Item World fills hundreds of hours for completionists. That excess, a Disgaea-series mark, offers a lifespan tactical-RPG fans cultivate endlessly.

Collector interest

An enriched Vita edition from Nippon Ichi, Disgaea 4 A Promise Revisited adds scenarios and characters to the original tactical RPG, released in North America in a modest run. The format's scarcity and most-complete-version status make it a target for Japanese-strategy fans. Its interest lies in this augmented content and this limited distribution.

Is Disgaea 4 - A Promise Revisited still worth playing in 2026?

A direct enriched sequel by Nippon Ichi, Disgaea 4 A Promise Revisited offers a humorous tactical RPG with enriched combat system, new characters and DLC content included. The sublime manga art direction, ever present humour and absolutely crazy replay value make it an absolute peak of the Disgaea saga on Vita. For anyone who loved Disgaea or seeking a humorous tactical RPG peak, an absolutely essential recommendation today still without any hesitation on the Sony portable machine truly here indeed.
