A technically impressive Doom port for the hardware, but clearly cut down versus PC. More of a curio than a go to today.

Collector interest

The North American NTSC edition of Doom on SNES, the most widespread of the three regions. A Super FX2 chip port by Williams Entertainment, it circulates widely as a loose cart, with value concentrated on graded sealed copies or a clean complete card box. The Super FX chip keeps it sought after despite its US abundance. Cut down against the PC yet astonishing for the hardware, this console Doom keeps its id Software aura: a condition market, where availability caps the price outside top-grade pieces.

A questionable morality

Saving the planet from a hellish invasion makes a flawless pretext for what remains, controller in hand, a march down corridors devoted to pulverizing everything that moves, one after another. No questions, no warnings: you push forward, you shoot, you scoop up ammo to start over. The noble mission cheerfully blurs into one big shooting gallery without a single lull.
