Accessible and spectacular DBZ versus fighter. Attack effects are impressive for the era. Less deep gameplay than Budokai but fan-service is present. Good choice for anime fans seeking immediate fun.

The adaptation aims above all for fidelity to the animated series: silhouettes with exact proportions, flat colour imitating cel painting, energy effects rendered through bright halos rather than textures. The camera pulls back during exchanges at range, reproducing the wide shots characteristic of the show's confrontations.
The soundtrack draws on the orchestral vocabulary of the television series: heroic brass, choirs over the power surges, hammered percussion through the rapid exchanges. The themes change according to which protagonists are involved, and the energy-charging moments come with a crescendo that reproduces the dramatic mechanics of the animation exactly.
The story mode replays the series' major confrontations in order, from the first warriors arriving from space to the artificial creations, leaning on the knowledge the audience already has of those episodes. The writing re-explains nothing and banks on immediate recognition, which lets the high points follow one another without dead time.
