The cult space trading simulator on NES. Trade, fight, explore the open universe. Revolutionary in its time, still fascinating in its ambition. For pure simulation fans.

Collector interest

The European PAL NES port of the Acornsoft space sim, by Imagineer in 1991. One of the rare console ports of the genre's founding work, exclusive to the PAL market. The cart is very scarce and CIB in the original cardboard box is a target for highly specialised collectors at the intersection of hard PAL NES and the historical Elite community. The cote is pulled by raw scarcity more than mass nostalgia.

Is Elite still worth playing in 2026?

Elite on NES is the adaptation of David Braben and Ian Bell's cult space trading simulator. Trade between planets, fight pirates, explore a procedural open universe, the concept stays revolutionary in its sheer ambition today. The cart pulls off miracles to fit the experience onto the console, with inevitable technical compromises. A fascinating detour to try today to understand how the space sandbox was born in the 80s.
