"Captivating"
Under Hitoshi Sakimoto's baton, the music deploys a medieval orchestra of rare elegance, between chivalric fanfares and hushed melodies. Each tactical mission rises to the level of an illuminated tale, supporting reflection without ever weighing it down. This symphonic finesse remains one of the great triumphs of the tactical RPG.

Moving your units across the grid, leveling up jobs and combining skills turns every battle into a tactical puzzle you want to refine. Unlocking a class, recruiting a member or building a clan multiplies short-term goals. The law system and the uneven difficulty divide opinion, but this depth of customization grips you for very long sessions.

"Massive"
With more than 300 missions to chain together, the counter climbs before you notice, carried by a job system of thirty classes and five races to mix freely. Exploring Ivalice's world map, building your ideal clan and working around the laws the Judges enforce feeds vast replayability, well beyond the fifty-plus hours quoted for the story and its quests. A tactical RPG whose depth still justifies its reputation.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) price, value & rarity
PAL edition of the first portable Final Fantasy Tactics entry, signed by Yasumi Matsuno at Square Enix and structured as the transition between his Tactics Ogre work and the Ivalice fabric that would later spread to DS and PSP. Square Enix Europe run was decent but the European cardboard box often turns up crushed, and the game's pivot role in the Matsuno chronology makes a complete PAL identified copy a central documentary piece for Ivalice enthusiasts.
Better with friends
Turn-based tactics of formidable depth, perfect to experience as a group even though it's played solo: everyone tosses out ideas, anticipates moves and debates the best maneuver before each turn. This impromptu war council turns the thinking into a collective game where you savor bold plans together. Deep and demanding, it rewards strategist minds gathered around the screen.
Is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance still worth playing in 2026?
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance steps away from its PlayStation predecessor with a lighter tone and a system of laws that constrains each battle with shifting rules. The result is a deeply generous tactical RPG, packed with classes, synergies and side quests, demanding thought about both party composition and timing. The Marche storyline mostly shines through the cozy storybook atmosphere of this Ivalice. Still an excellent pick for anyone who loves long form strategy role playing.
