A Goemon GB by Konami with the Edo gang. More complete than the previous Sarawareta Ebisumaru, varied levels, the franchise's signature offbeat Japanese humor. Polished Konami production, sometimes confusing readability due to monochrome. A good portable action-adventure, a delightful Japanese niche.

Is Ganbare Goemon - Kurofunetou no Nazo still worth playing in 2026?

A platform adventure from Konami, this Game Boy Goemon sends the band of heroes exploring a mysterious island across varied levels, puzzles and inventive bosses. The offbeat Japanese humor the series is known for and the colorful art direction give the whole some character, despite the monochrome screen. The pacing is pleasant and the level design careful. Kept in Japan, it is a nice pick for fans of Goemon and retro 2D platforming ready to deal with the language barrier.
