The pixel art is deliberately cruder than the console allows: heroes made of a few dots, monsters with two animation frames, villages of square tiles. That embraced regression serves the joke, and the giant hourglass counting down at the top of the screen becomes the game's most imposing graphic element.
The tracks are cut to fit inside half a minute: introduction removed, main theme stated at once, no reprise. The timbre imitates 1980s sound chips, and the tempo speeding up as the hourglass empties turns the music into a panic gauge more reliable than the number on screen.
