This instalment establishes the style the next one will reuse: a Greece of pale stone, columns, olive trees, square sailed ships, monsters borrowed from ancient texts. The character sprites are slightly smaller than in the fourth game, but the temple and harbour city settings already show a density of detail remarkable for a 1992 title.
The score alternates bright travelling themes with darker pieces tied to the gods, in an instrumentation favouring plucked strings and flutes. The battles gain tension through tempo rather than volume, and a few passages tied to the story's revelations adopt a slowness unusual for a game of this period.
The subtitle announces the subject: the gods have gone silent, and men must go on without an answer. A hero without memory traces the thread of his own nature across a Greece where the higher powers have stopped intervening, and the story turns that absence not into a void but into an accusation, delivered with a gravity the genre rarely practised.

A turn-based JRPG from Data East, Heracles no Eikou III plunges Hercules and his companions into a Greco-Roman mythological world, with town and dungeon exploration. Its structure stays very textbook and predictable, but its setting and epic plot keep a certain charm. It is a classic RPG with few surprises, pleasant for fans of tame mythological tales willing to use a fan translation. More an endearing curiosity for genre fans than a standout against today's standards.
