Wii-exclusive grindhouse spin-off, knowing parody of B-movie horror with blood, swearing and intentionally caricatural characters. Solid rail shooter, plenty of weapons, themed levels (sewer, asylum, swamp) well crafted. Decent difficulty, local co-op, excellent English voice acting. Truly unique atmosphere in the genre, heavy black humor. A brilliant oddity that fully owns its art direction.

Description
Rail shooter developed by Headstrong Games and published by Sega in Europe in March 2009. Special Agent G and his partner Washington neutralize a criminal organization conducting zombie experiments in kitsch and bloody B-movie settings. Wiimote pointing, excessive dismemberment, grindhouse-style screaming dialogue and monstrous bosses. House of the Dead franchise spin-off presented as a 1970s B-horror film.

Is House of the Dead, The - Overkill still worth playing in 2026?

A rail shooter from Headstrong and Sega, The House of the Dead Overkill fully embraces its tribute to grindhouse exploitation cinema, between outrageous dialogue, scratched film aesthetics and proudly crude humour. The remote aiming, the frantic pace and the combo system energise a vent perfectly calibrated for the console. The unabashed vulgarity will not please everyone. An excellent light gun game for fans of arcade shooting and of self aware B movies in multiplayer.
