Collector interest

An HD re-release of the first Killzone, Sony's ambitious spearhead against Halo, issued in Europe and Asia as a separate physical edition in low volume. Its appeal lies in this restricted distribution of a remaster otherwise buried in compilations, making it a variant sought by collectors wanting the founding entry in a standalone box. An uncommon piece of the first-party saga.

Better with friends

A first-person shooter with a heavy, tactical feel, whose multiplayer clashes bet on zone control and complementary classes. The competition rewards team coordination and map mastery over pure reflex. Lacking split-screen and reliant on servers whose activity is no longer guaranteed, its online has had its day, but the martial atmosphere and the weight of the weapons stay memorable.

Is Killzone still worth playing in 2026?

The first Killzone, once touted as the genre's rival on PS3, today keeps mainly a value as testimony. Its dark military mood, its war against the red-eyed Helghast and its oppressive atmosphere laid the foundations of a strong universe that would fully bloom in the sequels. The slightly heavy handling, the dated AI and a few technical rough edges clearly betray their age. The title is worth it mostly for anyone wanting to understand the saga's genesis before discovering the excellent Killzone 2. For sheer playing pleasure, its successors are now clearly preferable.
