Crystal Dynamics rebuilds rooms from 1996 by betting on emptiness. The volumes are immense, the columns disproportionate, light falls through a single high opening, and there is nobody: no extras, no companion, almost no creatures. That choice of solitary architecture, held from the Peruvian caves to the sunken city, restores the original better than any added detail could.
Troels Brun Folmann's music stands out above all for what it does not play. Tens of minutes go by on dripping water, wind in the galleries and the sound of boots alone, then a bed of strings opens as a chamber is discovered, or dry percussion accompanies a beast's charge. That measured approach makes silence the main instrument of the adventure.
Is Lara Croft Tomb Raider - Anniversary still worth playing in 2026?
A remake of the very first Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics, Anniversary revisits Lara's mythical temples with the modern Legend engine, its fluid acrobatics and its polished environmental puzzles. The Wii version adds gesture aiming and manipulation, for better in the puzzles and worse in the action. The adventure keeps the solitary grandeur of the original and a real sense of exploration. An excellent adventure game for Lara Croft fans and lovers of contemplative platform puzzling.
