Story
★★★★★
"Captivating"
The foundational Hyrule magnified: enhanced textures, vivid colours and stereoscopic depth give fresh brilliance to an already mythical world. From the plains to the temples, every place keeps its unforgettable presence, elevated by the remake. This re-enchanted classicism still imposes a timeless elegance.
A few notes of the ocarina are enough to summon a whole world: Zelda's Lullaby or the Song of Time are etched into collective memory. Koji Kondo's compositions, woven into the gameplay, turn music into a genuine tool of adventure. This melodic magic, intact on 3DS, remains an absolute benchmark.
Gameplay
"Masterful"
Target locking, the millimetre-precise layout of the dungeons and the use of every item laid down a grammar of adventure the whole genre went on to copy. This 3D remake modernises the comfort without betraying the original feel, and exploration keeps a rare clarity. A few puzzles carry a period scent, but the whole is still travelled with undiminished pleasure.
Fun
"From the very first seconds"
A timeless masterpiece carefully rejuvenated: Link's quest gains depth and comfort without losing any of its magic. Exploring Hyrule, solving clever dungeons and playing the ocarina deliver an undimmed wonder. The 3D and the tweaks smooth out the adventure, ideal for rediscovering it or finally living it. A spellbinding journey, built to last.
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
Exploring a dungeon, earning an item that suddenly opens up a whole new swath of the world and solving the next puzzle chains discoveries together with masterful fluidity. Shuttling between eras and hunting down heart pieces extend the adventure well beyond the main thread. A few bits of backtracking show their age, but this structure remains a model that still captivates.
Ocarina of Time 3D Rev 1 PAL is the stabilised version, the one most played in Europe. Its collector value mostly comes from being the reference build behind Nintendo's communication at the time, with the post-launch patches integrated. The iconic position of the original game, widely seen as a peak of 3D game design, sustains constant demand.
Memorable bosses
Each dungeon climaxes on a guardian that sums up its theme, from the fire dragon Volvagia to the spectral horseman Phantom Ganon, before a two-stage final duel against Ganondorf. Z-targeting and combat puzzles laid down the rules of the 3D boss. A solemn staging and unforgettable musical themes lend these battles an aura that hasn't aged a day.
A cult cover
Framed in gold and engraved motifs, the image presents a resolute Link, sword and shield at the ready, against a backdrop evoking the lands of Hyrule. The solemnity of the golden frame and the nobility of the pose speak to the timeless character of this founding quest. Classic and warm, it appeals to nostalgics and newcomers alike.
Is Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time 3D still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2011 on 3DS, Grezzo and Nintendo's project offers a sumptuous remake of the 1998 masterpiece, often cited as one of the greatest games ever made. The adventure of young Link across Hyrule, the time travel and the dungeons with memorable puzzles keep an intact force, enhanced by modernised graphics and ergonomics rethought for the dual screen. The use of the gyroscope for aiming and the comfort of the touch inventory enrich the experience. The structure stays faithful to the original model. A peak of action adventure, recommended for any fan of the genre, veteran and newcomer alike.
